The mountains of New Hampshire are full of beautiful lakes. Lake Wentworth is one of these little jewels. The islands on the lake at sunset looked mysterious and dark. The sky and lake were lit up with glorious sunset color.
Every summer I spend two long weekends painting in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I drive all over the mountains painting on both sides of the ridges. When I travel to Evans' Notch the road heads east and crosses the state line into Maine. I drive through the lovely farming town of Fryeburg to reach the notch. Farms like this one are found in the valley along the Saco River as it flows through the fertile fields of town.
Portsmouth, NH is a seacoast town in my neighborhood. Its full of great old historic neighborhoods, old streets and a working harbor. This was painted near Puddle Dock in the old part of Portsmouth Harbor.
The White Mountains of New Hampshire are beautiful and a favorite painting spot of mine. There is a magical quality in these mountains and I love being up there in all seasons and any kind of weather. This is the view up the valley from North Conway, NH.
I like to wander around the grounds of the Canterbury Shaker Village in the off season. Its quiet, the buildings are very interesting to look at and I rarely see another living soul.
The Piscatisqua River forms the southern border between Maine and New Hampshire. In late winter the trees and shrubs are becoming more colorful. The snow, ice and salt water are a nice contrast to the greens and burnt siennas.
From the shore of Durham Point, New Hampshire Great Bay stretches out and wraps around you. The narrow bays stay ice locked longer than the large open areas where the ice cakes float by silently in the tides that barely create a ripple as they go in and out.
