In Cape Porpoise, Maine the harbor is full of working boats. Everyone rows out to their lobster boats from the town dock where they sit tied to the float.

By sunset many of the lobstermen were back home after a long day of hauling traps. This one skiff waited for it owner as the last bit of daylight lingered.

Sky Water Dance

Rolling green meadows rise up to meet thick stands of dark pine trees at Parsons Beach. At high tide the sunlit western sky is reflected in the water.

The Mousam River in Kennebunk, Maine flows through the marshes at Parsons Beach on its way to the sea.  High tide at sunset is a sight to behold.

The Marginal Way in Ogunquit, Maine is a perfect place to watch waves.  The open ocean crashes on this rocky coastline that is a favorite of many visitors to our state.

Acadia~ Dusk on Frenchman Bay

The water of Frenchman Bay is often like a giant mirror reflecting the colors of the sky above it. I always love visiting and painting in Acadia National Park.

Marsh Mood

The marshes are one of my favorite places. Wild life is plentiful and in every season and type of weather the colors are rich and beautiful.

Wind Over the Marsh

The clouds and birds were flying around the day I painted at Brave Boat Harbor. From where I stood I could see a bit of the ocean beyond the acres of marsh grasses.

Acadia ~ Sails on Frenchman Bay

The view from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park is sublime. Frenchman Bay is huge and gorgeous as it stretches across the horizon.

Maine Meadow

The meadows at Laudholm Farm are a favorite place of mine.  You can walk through woods and high rolling meadows for hours. There is an old road through an apple orchard that leads to the beach.

Marsh Gold

After the sun sets the marsh glows in a golden light. At Parsons Beach the tide was high and the pines were reflected in the golden water.

Mist and Surf

It was a misty lavender tinted day when I painted this picture in Friendship, Maine.  The wind was blowing hard pushing the clouds out to sea. It was choppy in the harbor and waves were crashing on the rocks.

White Pines

White Pines grow in the forests on the edge of the marshes. Years of steady winds off the ocean make most of them lean in the same direction.

Marsh Reflections

Miles of marshes stretch up the southern coast of Maine. All types of animals live here and thousands of birds use this region as a rest stop on their annual north and south migrations.

Beach Roses and Salt Hay

The west side of Drakes Island is edged with acres of marshes. Here the land is protected from the wind off the Atlantic. Its quiet here and the sound of the surf is distant. Here beach roses, meadows and small pines flourish.

Summer Meadow

Laudholm Farm is a lovely old home on acres of meadows and forest on the southern coast of Maine.  The house and barns sit high on a hill overlooking the marshes and the sea. I paint here in every season of the year.

Island in the Lake

The mountains of New Hampshire are full of beautiful lakes. Lake Wentworth is one of these little jewels. The islands on the lake at sunset looked mysterious and dark. The sky and lake were lit up with glorious sunset color.

The Pines, Look Park

I grew up in a town in western Massachusetts where there is a lovely park I spent a lot of time in as a child.  On a late summer trip last year I painted in the park near an out door theater named "The Pines". Its named after these amazing, huge, old pines that were planted all around it.  These are beautiful majestic trees. Under the pines you feel like you are in a cathedral.

Lakeside Reflections

On my painting trips through western Massachusetts there is a tiny lake in a state park I love to visit. I used to picnic here with my family when I was little. It hasn't changed at all. its still wild and rustic. It is in a remote area and always quiet after Labor Day. The cottages across the lake are empty and I have the place to myself. I love sitting on the shore in the warm late summer sun painting.
